Work packages

KORANET consists of five work packages which will all be implemented simultaneously during the four-year-duration of the project. Four of the work packages are thematic (analyses, foresight, joint funding and joint activities) and one deals with the general management of the project.

WP 1: Analysis, monitoring, review (WP leader: National Research Foundation of Korea and British Council)

Mapping of regional approaches including the preparation of reports and specific studies on S&T cooperation as well as an analysis of cooperation instruments and approaches 

• Task 1.1: Review of national S&T statistics and statistical capacities in Korea
• Task 1.2: Analysis of national and international S&T cooperation strategies of KORANET partners
• Task 1.3: Mapping of key S&T institutions in Korea
• Task 1.4: Identifying EU-Korean bilateral and multilateral patterns of S&T internationalisation strategies
• Task 1.5: Compiling and maintaining the directory of S&T programmes and institutions
• Task 1.6: Dissemination conference on the results of WP 1

Main deliverables of WP 1: several analytical reports (e.g. on cluster/network cooperation policies and public funding organisations, on drivers and barriers of EU-Korean S&T cooperation, on key research institutions), an inventory of S&T cooperation programmes, organisation of a 'Mapping workshop' in Berlin and a conference in Europe to disseminate the results of WP 1

WP 2: Strategy and foresight (WP leader: Centre for Social Innovation)

Strategic discussions, setting framework objectives, identification of cooperation areas of common interest

• Task 2.1: Identifying opportunities for European-Korean collaboration and drawing up good practice procedures as well as conclusions and recommendations for future programmes and initiative
• Task 2.2: Cooperation Policy Foresight with expert panel meetings
• Task 2.3: Drafting of a Consultation Paper on future EU-Korea S&T cooperation
• Task 2.4: Development of a Joint Action Plan for future EU-Korea S&T cooperation
• Task 2.5: Dissemination of the Consultation Paper and the Joint Action Plan

Main deliverables of WP 2: policy recommendations on future programmes, expert panel meetings, synthesis report of the expert panels on priority setting in EU-Korean S&T cooperation, Consultation Paper on future EU-Korea S&T cooperation and based on this a Joint Action Plan

WP 3: Joint funding (WP leader: Centre National de Recherche Scientifique)

Development and implementation of a pilot joint funding scheme and based on its evaluation a joint funding programme of programme owners

• Task 3.1: Negotiating, preparing and concluding cooperation agreements for a Pilot Joint Call including the development of a concept for its implementation
• Task 3.2: Implementing the Pilot Joint Call
• Task 3.3: Assessment of the Pilot Joint Call
• Task 3.4: Setting up and implementing a Joint Programme
• Task 3.5: Assessment of the Joint Programme

Main deliverables of WP 3: Implementation of a Pilot Joint Call and a Joint Programme in thematic areas to be defined, roadmap on setting up a Joint Programme, assessment reports on the Pilot Joint Call and the Joint Programme

WP 4: Joint activities (WP leader: Technical Research Center of Finland)

Continuous scientific and policy dialogue (annual conferences, workshops, brokerage and information events, networking activities)

• Task 4.1: Establishing and organising EU-Korean S&T-conferences
• Task 4.2: Joint project cooperation - organisation of thematic workshops/events
• Task 4.3: Connecting young researchers by opening up existing programmes

Main deliverables of WP 4: four annual conferences on different S&T thematic areas, four thematic workshops, information/brokerage events, recommendations on the stimulation of Korean participation in thematic ERA-NETs, overview of existing programmes for young researchers, support of short term research stays of young researchers

WP 5: Organisation and management (WP leader: International Bureau of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) at the German Aerospace Agency)

General coordination of the project

• Task 5.1: Project implementation management
• Task 5.2: Financial management, reporting and auditing procedures
• Task 5.3: Setting up and maintaining the web-based communication platform
• Task 5.4: Quality management and trouble shooting
• Task 5.5: Disseminating the outputs of KORANET's activities and active partnering with stakeholder institutions

Main deliverables of WP 5: regular consortium committee meetings, dissemination activities (press releases, KORANET project website, etc.), quality management and regular reporting to the European Commission.
